The construction of distribution automation system and the grid capacity expansion need a lot of resources, and it needs to be planned for a long time. There is a coupling relationship between distribution automation system planning and grid capacity expansion planning. In order to deal with this complex planning problem, a new comprehensive planning method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, considering the main software and hardware infrastructure of distribution system, a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model is established. The objective function of the planning model is to maximize the profits of power grid companies within the planning time range. Then genetic algorithm is used to solve the planning problem of distribution automation system considering grid capacity expansion, and the best scheme and schedule of grid capacity expansion and automation system construction are determined. The proposed method is tested on a 24-bus system, and the methods of grid capacity expansion planning and then distribution automation system planning are compared. The proposed method can greatly improve the profits of power grid companies with a small amount of revenue reduction.
